A conference bridge can record its calls. Recordings are stored against your account and kept for 90 days.
Two ways to record
- Record by Default — every session on that bridge is recorded automatically, from the moment the first person joins.
- Allow Recording — recording is not automatic, but it can be started and stopped during the call from the portal.
Both are settings on the bridge. If Allow Recording is off, starting a recording is refused with "Recording is disabled for this bridge".
Callers are told
When a bridge records by default, every caller hears a spoken notice before they are placed in the room:
"This conference is being recorded. If you do not consent, please hang up now."
This plays on every way into the bridge, including for people dialling in from outside. You do not have to announce it yourself.
Starting a recording during a call
Open the bridge in the portal while the call is running and use the recording control. It only works when somebody is actually on the call — on an idle bridge you will be told "No one is currently in this conference."
Where recordings go
Under the Recordings tab on the Conference Bridges page. Each recording belongs to one session — one occurrence of people being in the room — and shows how long it ran.
How long they are kept
90 days by default, after which they expire. If you need a recording for longer, download it before it expires.
If a recording does not appear
Recordings are collected by a process that runs alongside the telephony platform, so there is a short delay after a call ends before one shows up. If a recording has not appeared well after the call, contact support with the bridge name and the date and time of the call.
Before you record
Recording a call carries obligations that vary by province and by who is on the call. The spoken notice tells participants what is happening and gives them the chance to hang up, but deciding whether to record — and whether that notice is sufficient for your situation — is yours to make.
