To receive calls, the ReliaRing app needs permission to be woken by your phone when a call arrives. Some battery-saving settings — especially on Android — can block that, which makes calls go silently to voicemail. This guide shows you how to keep the app reachable without hurting your battery life.
Good news: the app is already battery-friendly
The app doesn't run flat-out in the background. It relies on your phone's notification system to wake it only when a call or message comes in, so day-to-day battery use is light. The settings below just make sure your phone doesn't block those wake-ups.
Android: allow background activity
Android's battery savers are the most common reason calls stop ringing.
- Open Settings → Apps → ReliaRing → Battery (wording varies by phone).
- Set it to Unrestricted / allow background activity.
- Turn off any "optimize battery usage," "sleeping apps," or "deep sleep" restriction for ReliaRing.
Some phone brands have an extra "protected apps," "auto-launch," or "startup manager" list — add ReliaRing to it so it's allowed to start and receive calls.
iPhone: keep Background App Refresh on
- Open Settings → ReliaRing.
- Turn on Background App Refresh.
- In Settings → Notifications → ReliaRing, make sure notifications are allowed, and check that a Focus or Do Not Disturb mode isn't silencing them.
Low Power / Battery Saver modes
When your phone's Low Power Mode (iPhone) or Battery Saver (Android) is on, it can delay or block background wake-ups. If you're expecting calls, keep these modes off, or add ReliaRing as an exception where your phone allows it.
Test it
After changing these settings:
- Fully close the app (swipe it away).
- Lock your phone.
- Call your business number from another phone and confirm it rings.
If calls still don't ring after allowing background activity, the cause is usually notifications — work through Push Notifications for Mobile Calls and Messages next.
Balancing battery and reliability is a trade-off, but because the app only wakes on demand, allowing background activity has a small battery cost for the big benefit of never missing a call.
