Setting up a monitor takes about a minute. You tell ReliaVerify which number to watch, how often to check it, and what counts as a healthy result. From then on, we place the test calls automatically and keep a record of every one.
Before you start
You need an active ReliaVerify subscription. When you open Line Verification for the first time with a new subscription, a setup wizard appears automatically to walk you through the two steps below.
Step 1 — Choose the number to monitor
- Open Line Verification.
- In the setup wizard (or from Line Verification → Monitors → Add Subscription), enter the phone number you want to watch.
- This can be any number you want to keep an eye on — it does not have to be a ReliaRing number. If you own numbers on your account, you can pick one from the quick list.
- Click Next.
Step 2 — Set the schedule and success rule
How often should we check it? Choose a frequency:
| Frequency | Roughly how many tests per month |
|---|---|
| Every hour | ~720 |
| Every 4 hours | ~180 |
| Every 6 hours | ~120 |
| Once a day | ~30 |
| Once a week | ~4 |
The wizard shows how many tests per month your choice adds up to and compares it against your plan's monthly allowance, so you do not accidentally schedule more tests than your plan includes.
What counts as a passing check? Pick the rule that matches the line:
- Call is answered — passes as long as the call connects and is answered. Good for most lines.
- Answered by a person — passes only when a live person answers; voicemail counts as a failure.
- Answered with good audio — passes when answered and the audio quality is good enough. Useful when a scratchy line is as bad as a dead one.
When should it run? Depending on the frequency, choose the time of day, day of the week, or minute of the hour. Times use your account's timezone.
Who should we alert? Add the email addresses that should hear about problems, and choose whether each one is notified on failures, on passes, or both. You can add several contacts. See Getting alerts when a line fails for more.
Optionally, tick Run a test right now so I can see it working to fire off one immediate test (it uses one test from your monthly allowance).
Click Start monitoring. Your monitor is now live, and results will appear on the dashboard and in your history.
Changing a monitor later
You can edit a monitor's schedule, success rule, or alert contacts at any time from Line Verification → Monitors. Open the test to change its settings, pause it, or run an extra check on demand.
