Transferring a Fax Number to ReliaRing

Updated July 26, 20264 views0 found helpful

Keep the fax number your customers already have. What the transfer needs, what it costs, and what happens to your faxes while it is in progress.

If your fax number is printed on forms, referral pads and your website, you do not have to give it up. You can transfer it to ReliaRing and keep it.

Before you start

Have these ready — a transfer is rejected if they do not match your current provider's records exactly:

  • Your account number with your current provider
  • Your PIN or passcode, if they use one
  • The name of the person authorised on that account
  • The service address on the account

Do not cancel your existing fax service before the transfer finishes. If the number is disconnected first, it cannot be transferred and you lose it.

How to transfer

  1. Go to Fax → Inbox and click Add Fax Line.
  2. Choose a plan, then choose to transfer a number you already have.
  3. Enter the number and the account details above.
  4. Review the transfer fee, which depends on the country the number is in.
  5. Pay the fee. The transfer is only submitted after payment clears — this is deliberate, so a transfer never sits half-started.
  6. We submit it to the network and keep you updated.

While the transfer is in progress

Your number keeps working at your current provider until the transfer completes. You can be given a temporary number so you can start sending and receiving on ReliaRing straight away; when the transfer lands, your real number takes over and the temporary one is released.

How long it takes

Timelines are set by the losing provider and the network, not by ReliaRing. Canadian fax number transfers usually complete in several business days. Delays are almost always a mismatch between what you entered and what your current provider has on file — most often the account number or the service address.

If the transfer is rejected

You will be told why. Correct the details and resubmit; you are not charged the fee again for a resubmission of the same transfer. The most common reasons are:

  • The account number or PIN does not match the losing provider's records
  • The authorised name is not the person on that account
  • The service address differs from the one on the bill
  • The number was already disconnected
