Every number transfer shows a status at Phone Numbers → Porting → Transfer Requests. Open a transfer and you get the status plus a one-line explanation, and underneath it a full history of every change with the date it happened.
Here is what each one means and, more usefully, whether it is your turn to do something.
Statuses where you need to act
Draft — you started a transfer and have not submitted it. Nothing has been sent anywhere. Open it and finish the wizard. Drafts also appear on their own Drafts tab.
Documents Required — the carrier needs more paperwork than what is on file. Our team will tell you exactly what.
Changes Required — something on the request does not match your current provider's records and has to be corrected before it can go further. See Fixing a Transfer That Needs Changes.
Statuses where you just wait
Pending Review — your documents are being checked.
Submitted to Provider — the order has gone to the carrier. This is the point at which your current provider is notified.
In Process — the carrier is working it. This is where a transfer spends most of its time, and where there is genuinely nothing to do.
Foc Date Set — "FOC" means Firm Order Commitment: your current provider has committed to a date to release the number. Your transfer page shows the date. This is the best status to see, because the date is now agreed rather than estimated.
Checking Portability — eligibility is being verified.
Statuses where the transfer is over
Completed — the number is on ReliaRing and your service on it is active. Your old provider's service for that number ends on its own.
Cancelled — the transfer was cancelled, by you or by us. Nothing moved.
Failed — the transfer did not go through. Our team will be in touch with what happened. Your number stays exactly where it is; a failed transfer never leaves a number in limbo.
Timing
We email you when a transfer completes or fails, and whenever it needs a correction or another document. You do not have to watch the page.
Statuses change when the carrier tells us, which is usually within minutes for Canadian and US numbers. For numbers outside Canada and the US, our team updates the status directly as the transfer progresses, so updates arrive in steps rather than continuously.
The one rule while any transfer is in flight
Do not cancel your service with your current provider. If the number is disconnected before it moves, the transfer fails and you can lose the number permanently. Wait for Completed — the old service for that number ends by itself.
