A Letter of Authorization — everyone calls it an LOA — is the document that gives ReliaRing permission to ask your current provider to release your number. No carrier will move a number without one. It is a legal authorisation, not a formality.
You do not have to write it
ReliaRing generates the LOA for you from the details you have already entered — your numbers, your current provider, and the account holder information. On the Documents step of the transfer wizard, select Generate LOA. The PDF opens so you can read it before signing anything.
Read it before you sign. The numbers listed and the account holder details on the LOA are what your current provider will check against their own records. If anything is wrong, go back a step and correct it rather than signing.
Signing it
Sign directly in the browser — draw your signature, and enter your name and job title. There is nothing to print, scan or email. As soon as you sign, the signed PDF is stored on your transfer request and is attached to the order when it goes to the carrier.
Who is allowed to sign
The person who signs must be authorised on the account with your current provider — usually the account holder or an officer of the business. Name and title should match what that provider has on file.
Signing as someone who is not authorised on the losing account is the second most common reason a transfer is rejected, after a mismatched address.
The recent bill
The wizard also asks for a recent bill from your current provider. This is how the carrier confirms the account number and the account holder are real. Upload a PDF, an image (JPEG, PNG or GIF), or a Word document, up to 10 MB.
One thing worth knowing: a PDF works best. Our carrier network only accepts PDF and TIFF for the copy that travels with the order, so a photo of a bill is kept on your request for our team to read but is not forwarded automatically. If you have the option, download the PDF from your provider's portal rather than photographing a paper bill.
Viewing the signed LOA later
Open the transfer at Phone Numbers → Porting → Transfer Requests. The detail page has view and download links for both the signed LOA and the bill you uploaded. They stay available for the life of the account.
If you need to sign again
If a transfer is rejected and something on the LOA needs correcting, our team will tell you what to change and you sign a fresh copy. Nothing is lost — the earlier version stays on the record.
