New Account Admin: Your First-Week Checklist

Updated July 22, 20264 views0 found helpful

A week-one plan for the person setting up ReliaRing for a business — from first sign-in to a fully working phone system.

If you're the person setting up ReliaRing for your business, this checklist gets you from a brand-new account to a working phone system in about a week. You don't have to do it all at once — spread it across a few short sessions.

ReliaRing also shows a Welcome to ReliaRing setup checklist inside the portal that tracks your progress automatically. This article mirrors that flow and adds the admin-only tasks.

Day 1 — Get the basics working

  1. Complete your profile. Add your name and contact details in Settings.
  2. Turn on two-step verification (2FA). In Settings → General → Security & Privacy, enable two-factor authentication to protect the account.
  3. Add your first phone number. Go to Phone Numbers → Buy Numbers, or use Phone Numbers → Porting to transfer an existing number.
  4. Make a test call. Open the softphone from the top bar and call your mobile to confirm audio works.

See the Quick Start Guide for step-by-step help.

Day 2 — Emergency calling (do this early)

  1. Register your E911 address. In Emergency Dialing → Locations & Registrations, add your street address and register each number to it. This is required for 911 to work.
  2. Set up a Kari's Law notification group. Under Emergency Dialing → Notification Groups, choose who gets alerted when anyone on your account dials 911.
  3. Run a 933 test call. Use Emergency Dialing → Test Calls (933) to safely confirm your address is registered correctly.

Important: Until an address is registered, emergency calls may not reach the right dispatcher. Don't skip this step.

Day 3 — Shape how calls are handled

  1. Set your business hours. In Organization → Business Hours, define when you're open so after-hours calls can go to voicemail or another destination.
  2. Record your voicemail greeting. In Settings → Voicemail, set a PIN and record a professional greeting.
  3. Build a voice menu (auto-attendant), if you need one. In Phone System → Voice Menus (IVR), create a menu like "Press 1 for Sales, Press 2 for Support." See the voice menus help category for details.

Day 4 — Add your team

  1. Invite team members. In Organization → Team Members, send invitations by email. See Inviting team members.
  2. Create extensions. In Phone System → Extensions, give each person an internal number.
  3. Set roles. In Account → Users & Roles, assign Admin, User, or Limited access as appropriate.

Day 5 — Money, mobile, and polish

  1. Review your plan and balance. Check Billing → Overview, and add a prepaid balance under Billing → Wallet if your account uses prepaid funds.
  2. Install the mobile app. So your team can take calls on the go.
  3. Set outbound caller ID. In Settings → General → Caller ID, choose the number and name shown when your team calls out.

Before you call it done

  • Made a test call in and out
  • Left yourself a voicemail and retrieved it
  • Registered E911 for every number and ran a 933 test
  • Business hours and after-hours handling set
  • Team invited with the right roles
  • Payment method or prepaid balance in place
